Version Info
Posted Saturday, November 24, 2001 by xcal
Received some information from german site planetwolfenstein.de concerning the various versions to be released,

The Multiplayer game uses the stylized double-eagle logo in place of the more objectionable swastika. That way, everyone is playing the same game online. The Single Player graphics will be localized to handle laws prohibiting games from prominently displaying Nazi emblems. The English language version uses swastikas in the SP game. There is only one English language edition (same version in US, UK & Australia).

HomeLanfed interviews Kevin Cloud
Posted Thursday, November 22, 2001 by xcal
Since the game is released in the US, HomeLanFed posed some questions to Kevin Cloud concerning his thoughts of the Success of RTCW,

HomeLAN - There is a ton of hype and anticipation for Return to Wolf. Do you feel that the final game will live up to its high expectations?

Kevin Cloud - Absolutely. Wolfenstein 3-D was id’s first big success. We probably have higher expectations for the game than anyone. You really need to play the game and evaluate it for yourself, but when you look at the whole package - the extreme detail in the architecture, art and design, the compelling story, motion-captured animation, movie-like soundtrack, and unique and fully developed multiplayer experience – everything that makes up RTCW, it is truly rewarding to see it on the shelf and know that gamers are getting a first-rate experience.

CD- Keys
Posted Wednesday, November 21, 2001 by xcal
Graeme Devine, has updated his .plan with the following information regarding the CD-Keys.

wolf/q3a cd-keys and so forth.
As we see cdkeys being distributed over the Internet those keys are being added to our ban list. It is very important to not share your own cdkey with anyone else.

If you've been playing for a while, get disconnected from your modem, and want to rejoin, you can rejoin the exact server you were on only. Because your IP address has changed, you'll need to wait for the key lease to timeout before you can join another server. The timeout period is 5 minutes.

Wolf uses the same cdkey generation technology as Q3A. THERE HAS NOT BEEN ONE SINGLE HACK on this system. Many so-called cdkey generators are in fact virus attacks that steal your own good cdkey, or worse, corrupt your files

Common sense, dont go sharing your CD-Keys :)

Return to Castle Wolfenstein Hits Stores
Posted Tuesday, November 20, 2001 by xcal
Official press release from activision, stating that RTCW has hit the stores (US), along with a desciption of the game, below is an extract,

In addition to an action-packed story-driven single-player experience, Return to Castle Wolfenstein's multiplayer mode enlists gamers to hone their tactical skills in a series of combat scenarios. Gamers will join the fight as an axis or ally soldier and be challenged to intense, realistic campaigns like storming beachheads, infiltrating military installations, holding strategic positions, and more. Developed by Nerve Software, the online component features multiple objectives spanning a variety of maps, including an Allied airbase, a war-torn German village and a secret Nazi laboratory.

Todd Hollenshead's updated .plan
Posted Tuesday, November 20, 2001 by xcal
With good news concerning the pre-orders on forthcoming RTCW release check the .plan below :)

Return To Castle Wolfenstein Shelf Date News!

According to my sources at Activision, the following stores will
have the game available tomorrow, Tuesday November 20:

CompUSA
Best Buy
EB (USA)
Gamestop
EB (Canada)

If you pre-ordered the Tin, I think those should be available tomorrow
in the locations listed above, but you may want to call ahead to
make sure. If you didn't order a Tin, but would like to pick one up,
I understand that a limited number may make their way to store
shelves. I'm guessing that any available Tin boxes will disappear
as soon as they hit the shelves.

The official strategy guide from Prima should be available this coming
Friday, and they've done a really nice job on this one. If you've been
following the news about Wolf, you know that there are a ton of secrets
and easter eggs in the game not to mention the various tactical approaches
you can take to a given scenario and the guide will take you through all of
that.

I look forward to seeing a bunch of you on the servers tomorrow! Schnell!

New Custom Map
Posted Sunday, November 18, 2001 by xcal
Still in its early stages, but progressing very nicely, Masochist sent some details of his current project for RTCW multiplayer

The Allies must infultrate the Axis base and destroy a V2 rocket. They must then destory the complex's main frame computer in order to release security locks to the inner complex. Located inside the inner complex are blue prints to the V2 rocket. The Allies must steal these blue prints and return to a redevouz point to win the round. Of course the Axis must do anything and everything within their power to stop the Allied advance.

Todd Hollenshead - Release News
Posted Thursday, November 15, 2001 by xcal
Todd's updated .plan give some good info concerning the imminent release, and likely release dates for Europe, Mac and linux builds, read below

WoooHOOOO! Wolf is golden indeed. Congrats to Gray Matter, Activision and Nerve for all of the hard work they have put
in over the last 2+ years we've been working on this game.

If you're interested in the sweet collectors' tin boxes (that come
with a cool poster and a sew-on Wolf logo patch) I think you
can still get those through the various pre-order programs at
Best Buy (blue), Gamestop/Babbages (silver) and EB (black)
while supplies last (these may go quickly now).

It looks like people will actually be able to pick up copies
early next week in many places and after Thanksgiving most
everywhere in the U.S. The international versions will follow
very shortly behind due to increased manufacturing time and shipping
logistics, but I'm guessing there will be world-wide availabilty
by the first of December.

I don't know when we will have them for sale direcly from id, but
retail will definitely have the initial availability. I'll post
direct-sale information as soon as I have it.

No date yet on the Mac version, but it's coming soon (not gold yet, though). We don't have plans to sell Linux in retail, but Timothee has done great work on the downloadable binaries so far, and I expect
that to continue.

**Special note to our German fans: buy as soon as they come out and
avoid the "rush" ;-) I know you guys know what I mean...

IGN interviews Nerve
Posted Sunday, November 11, 2001 by xcal
IGN have got a good interview with Nerve's Brandon James, if you want to brush up your background info on Nerve software then have a look, heres a sample

When we setout to create the multiplayer component to Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Id was adamant on not recreating the typical deathmatch, multiplayer experience. We all felt that the pinnacle of on-line deathmatch had been reached with Quake III, so we were looking to take it in another direction. Because the game was set in an alternate World War II, the obvious choice was to develop something that counted on, or even required teamwork.

Custom Map News
Posted Thursday, November 8, 2001 by xcal
Tunnelram and Tical have been busy for some time now working on a new map for RTCW, the map is currently in alpha stage at the moment, but fastly approaching beta, heres how tunnelram describes the map

The allies start off at that train area, then there's a rocky area from which 4 paths are possible. One goes to an underground passage, 2 go to the lower front of the Nazi complex and another goes to a ridge overlooking the front of the Nazi complex.

There's a large open area in front of the complex where a platform sits housing 3 miniguns and sandbags. Behind that two bunkers housing 2 miniguns each. A small bridge that connects the two bunkers, an area behind the bunkers where there's a mortar pit (yes you can fire the mortar if you want to Then after that you go inside the power plant.....

All sounds rather good, and seeing the screenshots below will impress you further,

To keep up to date on the mapping developments be sure to check the forums and Tunnelram's own site http://tramdesign.cjb.net/
